A: It is not a problem at all for dachshunds to wear a harness. As long as the harness fits correctly and your dog is comfortable on walks that is the most important thing.

A: Unfortunately any dog that is determined to get out of a harness will find a way. There are harnesses you can buy that are called "escape proof" but in our opinion this is mostly false advertising in a lot of cases. The trick to get your dog to stay in his/her harness is to put on a harness that is comfortable for the dog to wear. A dog that is wearing a harness that is comfortable will not try to escape from it in our experience.

What if my dachshund hates the harness?

A: We would be sad if your dog didn't love his or her harness. But all dogs are different and some dogs do not like wearing certain harnesses. If this happens with our harness just contact us and we will replace it with another one or refund your money, no questions asked.

What is better, dachshund harness or collar?

A: Dachshunds can wear a harness or a collar and neither one is "better" than the other. That being said, dachshunds are known to have back issues and a collar may not provide much support to their back. If your dachshund is well-behaved on walks and doesn't pull or run then a collar may work just right for you. A harness is more secure than a collar, so if your dog is a wiggler then you may be better off using a harness.

My dachshund is pulling on her harness, will the fast fitting harness cause her to pull?

A: Many dogs like to pull while on leash. This is more of a training issue than an equipment issue for many dogs. There are so-called "no pull" harnesses available to buy but in our experience a dog that pulls on leash will pull no matter what type of harness you are using. The best way to get your dog to stop pulling is to train them to walk without pulling.

What is the best car harness for a dachshund?

A: Our fast fit harness works well as a car harness for many dogs, including dachshunds. For something a bit more secure though we recommend our Y-harness to be used for riding in the car. It has a more secure fit and will keep them snug in case of a quick brake check in the car.

A: Our harnesses are mesh lined. The mesh material is light and does not irritate your dog's skin and is cool in the summer months. We do have fleece lined harnesses as well for those that are looking for a softer fit.
